Three Hands
Who doesn't need an extra...
I have a piece of work in an exhibition in Islington soon. Full details at end.
Three Hands
Alison Aye, 2019
29 x 35cm, framed
Hand-stitched collage made from discarded papers.
From left to right.
Hand 1: Julian Assange Metro (12.4.19). Article by Daniel Binns. Getty Images*.
Hand 2: An unnamed protester on a ‘slutwalk’ demonstration Observer (2.12.19). Book review by Hannah Jane Parkinson. Not That Bad: Despatches From Rape Culture. Edited by Roxane Gay. Photo by Jason Alden/Rex/Shutterstock.
Hand 3: Anthony Comello Metro (19.3.19). Associated Press*.
Stitched to a reproduction of Satan Addressing His Angels by JMW Turner. From the Turner Bequest at the Tate Gallery. I did not reproduce this image, but took it from a battered book - Turner Watercolours in the Clore Gallery. Selected and introduced by Andrew Wilton. Published, 1989. Printed by Westerham Press, Kent.
The frame (bought for £13 from Oxfam on Kensington High Street, 25.3.26) was made by Outlines Picture Framers, 22 The Pavement, Clapham Common, London SW4 0HY. 01 6225328. The 01 London code dates it as pre 1990. The framers, also a gallery, was run by the artist Christina Bonnet. The site is now Lina Stores.
Exhibited in 2019 at Din Lømmel, Tønsberg, Norway. Part of a group show curated by Ameli Alfsdóttir Jakobsen.
To be exhibited as part of ‘Luminous’, which brings together a collection of works by ArtCan artists, exploring how light informs not only what we see, but how we feel, remember and connect.
20th April - 19th July 2026.
Hare and Hounds, 181 Upper St, London N1 1RQ.
Private View 6 - 8pm, 29th April (free tickets coming soon via Eventbrite).
All of the work is for sale, I think. My work is £350, 5% of which will go to Arts Emergency, and includes the frame. Although, it’s from a charity shop, so you may, or may not, want to get a re-do.
*The photo credits are as they appear in the articles from which the faces were cut. For the record, I don’t accept the name of a company as a photography credit. There was an actual person behind the camera. If you are that person, or know them, please give me a shout.

Excellent 👌
Oh, I really like this one! That background really makes them "pop". I thought the Julian Assange one was the Pope....
